The Acorn Tree at NightSouthern Hemisphere Skies, New ZealandMars, June 2001 |

WOW! The Hubble Heritage Team present us with the sharpest view ever obtained by an Earth-based telescope. Taken on June 26, 2001, Mars was about 43 million miles (68million km) from Earth. Note the polar caps. Dust storms are raging above the north polar cap at the top of the image and at the Hellas impact basin in the Southern Hemisphere (lower right of image). Man, that place looks inhospitable! But we may be living there one day.... Any volunteers? (The Oracle's hand goes up!)
